Ayalaan Review: Kids love it! Adults?

Ayalaan Pongal Special Poster

One of the most awaited movies of the year, Ayalaan reached the bigscreens finally after dodging all the hurdles. Sivakarthikeyan being a kid’s favourite star already, was all set to steal their hearts again with this sci-fi thriller. Did it work as the team anticipated it to be?

R Ravikumar had made a permanent place for himself in the genre of sci-fi movies in South with his debut ‘Indru Netru Naalai’, a time travelling movie which recieved positive reviews from both critics and general audiences. Ayalaan is his second attempt and is so ambitious in nature. To crack the success formula with an alien movie is not a piece of cake.

Ravikumar, with Ayalaan have successfully achieved that feat ofcourse. With a top-notch and convincing CGI+VFX delivery, Ayalaan is delivered as a decent movie. You’ll never frown while watching the movie. But will you be at the edge of the seat? Whistle? Feel thrilled or Awed by the occurances onscreen? Sadly, No.

Sivakarthikeyan in Ayalaan

We repeat, kids will love Ayalaan as the movie is fun-filled with many light-hearted moments. But Ayalaan is not only meant for kids but for adults as well. Unfortunately, there’s nothing special with the movie in that sense. With a routine plot, Ayalaan offers nothing new. Even without watching the movie you can guess it’s plot, at a skeleton level. An alien visits earth with a purpose and gets stuck. It should finish the purpose and find a way back..that’s it. That’s the gist. Nothing more nothing less.

Maestro ARR too didn’t had anything special to offer to such a big scale project. His inputs are decent. Not bad. But that wasn’t enough. Comedies work well at most places. But that wasn’t enough. Action sequences were decent. But decent wasn’t enough. Though, full marks to cinematography and VFX team. It is the VFX part that makes the movie run well in theatres and it should be watched on big screens!

Verdict

In short, Ayalaan is a light-hearted, fun filled movie, which looks as if it’s made for children. The VFX is very good and that’s it. You can go with your kids to keep them engaged for a while as you can relax.
